When she finished her book The Last Dance, she wasn’t expecting to write it.
“I didn’t really think about it for years,” says the author, who is also the author of the forthcoming book A Year in the Life of Michaela.
But after she went to see the film of the same name, she began to wonder: “Why does that story seem so familiar?
Why does it seem so different?”
That question inspired the creation of the book, which was co-written with her husband, Peter.
“It’s a question that I always have,” says Coelhop.
“How do you write about something that’s so different?
And also, it’s an important question: What can we learn from the past that we can use to write the future?”
“I think we can learn from this movie,” says co-author Peter Coel.
In the film, Michaela, a dancer, has been taken hostage by an extremist group and her father, a retired police officer, is killed.
The film’s producers had hoped to explore Coelhops thoughts on the film’s themes, but they soon realized that Coel’s thoughts would be different.
She had been influenced by the way the film depicted an Islamic revolution that toppled the secular regime of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and by the depiction of her own childhood in Egypt’s Tahrir Square.
“My whole life, I have been watching and reading about this kind of struggle, and I think I have a lot of insight,” says Michaela to the film crew.
Coelhops novel is set in Egypt in the early days of the 2011 uprising that ousted the military-backed regime and replaced it with the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist party with strong support from the country’s Muslim Brotherhood leadership.
Co-author of the new book, co-writer and editor Peter Coels book, ‘The Final Dance,’ with his wife Michaela (L) and author Michaelia Coel, ‘In the Year in Life of…,’ will be published next year.
Coels first met Coel when they were both studying in France.
CoELHO AND COELHAMAN: ‘The movie is a very different version of the story that I want to tell.’ co-authors Peter Coes book and book will be released next year, and Michaela and Peter are hoping to be able to collaborate with a book writer who has worked with Coel to produce a book on the same subject.
“She’s a brilliant book editor,” says Peter.
The book’s title, The Last Dancer, comes from a short story written by Coelhaman in 1962, but the title itself comes from the title of his first book, In the Year of Life of the Last Dance.
“The Last Dancers life is the same story that we all share,” says PEGGY COLLINS: ‘It’s not a very romantic story’ “This is a story that’s a very complicated story, but it’s not very romantic,” says producer Peter Coelman.
Coellers book will take readers through the life of a single mother of three in the years before she lost her son to suicide in 2013.
“This was a very hard year for my family, and for the city of Cairo,” says a distraught Coelhart.
And then my husband was on his way to the airport, and there’s this guy coming down the street and there is a lot going on, and we can’t see him. “
There was nothing that we could do about it.
And then my husband was on his way to the airport, and there’s this guy coming down the street and there is a lot going on, and we can’t see him.
He was just standing there, and that’s how I got to know him. “
But we couldn’t.
He had a very special sense of urgency and love for people, for each other, for himself.” “
He was always trying to save people, to help people, and so we wanted to do something for him.
He had a very special sense of urgency and love for people, for each other, for himself.”
As Coelholins son was being taken to a hospital, his mother was already at home.
“And I remember, sitting in the car, I was thinking, this is my son.
And I was like, this just keeps happening,” she says.
“Then he called me and said, ‘Mommy, I’m in a car accident, I can’t get out.
“As soon as I got out, I called my brother, and he called his brother, I just kept saying, ‘He’s going to make it.'” “
The book is scheduled for publication in 2018. “
